Thunder 4 def North Stars 1 … It was a very hard fought weekend against the North Stars and the score lines, as always, never tell the whole story.
We really dug in deep on Sunday night as things were not going our way and we had to work very hard, but that is how you succeed in this league. There is no room for loose or slack shifts, every shift has to be 100% or the game will turn against you very quickly.
We started exactly as planned taking command from the first face-off and pressing their defence hard. The first ten minutes was good hockey to watch, then Fox was ejected and our structure had to change. Without Young, Hyde, Nottle, Simon Kudla and then Fox all of our practiced lines were split up.
The boys responded very well and showed a lot of positional discipline. We kept things very simple and I would say we ground out a great result through commitment to the team cause.
A 6 point weekend is what we needed and also another two home game wins for our incredible fans who have had a testing season to watch. We are now only a couple of wins out of the top four with games in hand.
We still have the most games in the league to play so our destiny is in our hands. I figure there will be more ups and downs this season but if we work as hard as we did this weekend we will be challenging for the finals positions.
Thanks Thunder supporters – Stan Scott
